    In an opinion piece published in Eos, Yaga Richter, who leads our Earth System Predicatability Across Timescales (ESPAT) effort, and NSF NCAR Director Everette Joseph make a case for the importance of improving subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) prediction and how to move forward.

    Why it matters: Predictions on timescales of 2 weeks to 2 months hold enormous potential for supporting effective decision making across sectors ranging from water and agriculture to energy, disaster preparedness, and more. Yet these timescales represent an underdeveloped scientific frontier where our predictive capabilities are weakest.
