Please consider the following questions and prompts. Your responses will help us to define our new UCAR Community Programs (UCP) Strategic Plan.
In 2022, UCP hired an Independent Review Committee (IRC) to determine areas of excellence and opportunity. The IRC identified that UCP has enormous potential to take leadership in many areas of Earth system science and to have a much greater impact on the community. The IRC also noted that while many UCP programs have their own strategic plans, UCP as an entity does not have one. The lack of a cohesive strategic direction hinders collaborations among UCP programs, preventing UCP from realizing its full potential. In response to this finding, UCP established a Strategic Planning team, responsible for designing and facilitating a comprehensive strategic planning process that will produce a written mission, vision and strategic framework to be completed by June 2024. The UCP strategic planning effort will be inclusive of all employees across all UCP Programs as well as partners within UCAR, NCAR, Universities, Sponsors as well as other relevant external voices that diversify our perspectives to ensure UCP continues to be relevant now and into the future.
As an important partner in our Earth System Science (ESS) work, UCP requests your feedback on how UCP can continually improve its efforts to move research, education, and science forward. As you know, UCP works across the breadth of Earth system science through our programs: the Center for Ocean Leadership, COMET, COSMIC, CPAESS, GLOBE, JCSDA, SciEd, and Unidata. We partner and support numerous federal agencies and academic institutions with research to operations efforts; educational services spanning kindergarten through adult citizen science; workforce professional development and capacity building; Earth observation and data services with modeling, data sets and training on their use; and scientific partnerships supporting new niches in research, staff support, and the convening of scientific communities.
As someone actively working with or utilizing products or services from a UCP Program, your insight will provide valuable feedback to assist us in creating a strategic plan that provides useful and concrete direction in the continued development and guidance of UCP.
We sincerely appreciate your input and point of view. We anticipate that this survey will take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete. This survey is ANONYMOUS. Email addresses and other personal identifiers will NOT be collected.
