Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the UCAR Commons, our new community platform.

We know the value our community places on the networking and collaboration opportunities that are provided by UCAR and NCAR through our meetings, conferences, workshops, and facilities.  We also know how many of those opportunities have been altered or lost over the past two years due to the pandemic. To build on our community's established connections and help forge new ones, we are excited to introduce the UCAR Commons, a virtual gathering place where our community can engage in discussions, share the latest news from UCAR/NCAR and our university members, and keep up to date with upcoming events and announcements. 

This new platform will not only facilitate more effective communication between UCAR/NCAR and the community, but it will also give university faculty, researchers, and students additional means to communicate with each other. Through the various online communities within the UCAR Commons, you will find opportunities to post and respond to discussions that are important to our Earth system science community,  including position vacancies, research, facilities, government relations, and education.  

The UCAR Commons is evolving, and as it grows we will introduce new tools to help facilitate communications within the UCAR/NCAR community.

Thanks Tony and welcome everyone to the new UCAR Commons! 

As a contact for UCAR's governance and university relations department, you have been automatically subscribed to the new online member community. 

There are three simple steps to get started:

1. Login at commons.ucar.edu with your work email address and click on "Create/Forgot Your Password" to create your password.
2. Click on the blank profile pic on the upper right corner and update your profile and notification preferences. Add your bio, work history, picture, and interests. Then go to the "My Account" tab to set your privacy and email preferences.
3. Check out the "Getting Started" page under "Participate" to learn how to post discussions and share news.

As a default, you will receive daily email digests, but you can change your email preferences in your profile. Don't let the thought of emails adding up in your inbox prevent you from participating in the UCAR Commons. You can turn off emails completely and simply login as you'd like.
