NOAA's Earth Prediction Innovation Center: Artificial Intelligence in Numerical Weather Modeling
Join NOAA's Earth Prediction Innovation Center (EPIC) for an interactive short course focused on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in numerical weather prediction. Participants will gain hands-on experience running a variety of AI models currently being developed and tested at NOAA through guided community notebooks.
All course materials and example notebooks will be made publicly available following the session on the EPIC GitHub repository: NOAA-GSL/ai-notebooks.
This workshop will introduce participants to foundational AI modeling concepts, demonstrate workflows for training and running AI-based models, and provide tools for visualizing and verifying model performance against traditional numerical forecasts. The session also highlights Project EAGLE, a new NOAA initiative designed to accelerate the testing, development, and demonstration of AI models for both global and regional ensemble forecasting.
