    The Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) at Colorado State University seeks to fill a full-time professional research position for its collaborative research and development as a Cooperative Institute with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) Office of Science and Technology Integration (OSTI) in Silver Spring, MD.  This position is located in a federal facility in Silver Spring, MD and requires the ability to pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Tier 1 federal background check for building access.   The office will be in Silver Spring, MD; however, the option exists to work remotely from your home/office with periodic coordination meetings in Silver Spring.

    As part of this initiative to expand collaboration between CIRA and OSTI, the individual in this position will support the development, testing, validation, verification, and use of an agent-based model (ABM) to help reduce the negative impacts of flooding.  Working with stakeholders and other team members, they will conduct research to assess and operationalize the use of Flood Inundation Maps (FIMs) and other flood forecast information within an ABM.  Part of this research will include analyzing demographic attributes, forecast dissemination networks, population data, transportation networks, social vulnerability measures, and user needs surveys, among other data.  This position will collaborate with other team members to develop conceptual models for potential ABMs, generate code needed to create an operational ABM, identify and acquire data needed to support ABM verification and operation, and use the ABM to perform analysis.  The individual in this position may be responsible for preparing presentation materials, providing briefings, and generating documentation.  The individual may be responsible for supporting and responding to ad-hoc inquiries.  We are looking for a highly motivated, goal-oriented individual who works well within a team and individually.  This position reports to Senior Research Associate and works closely with and supports the NWS Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBES) Program Director.
