The Department of Environmental Sciences (DES) at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick, NJ invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Extension Specialist (equivalent to Assistant Professor) in Climate Services. A faculty member is sought whose scholarship and extension outreach relate to climate, climate change and its impacts, and climate-change adaptation relevant to New Jersey. Areas of interest are climatic effects on urban infrastructure, agriculture, coastal challenges, environmental justice communities, and related topics.

The successful candidate is expected to develop an innovative, externally funded, and nationally recognized research and extension program as part of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) and the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS). NJAES Cooperative Extension helps the diverse population of New Jersey adapt to a rapidly changing society and improve their lives and communities through an educational process that uses science-based knowledge to bring the wealth of knowledge of Rutgers University to local communities (https://njaes.rutgers.edu/extension/). In addition to the scholarly activities expected of an Assistant Professor, to which this position is equivalent, the candidate is expected to engage in robust community outreach with diverse stakeholders from urban to suburban to agricultural clientele, with an emphasis on equitable solutions to climate change, through the NJAES system of county and local extension agents and through the Office of the New Jersey State Climatologist. The successful candidate will teach courses in the undergraduate Meteorology and graduate Atmospheric Science academic programs in the Department of Environmental Sciences and perform service to the department, NJAES, SEBS, the university, and the state.
