The Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Group and Severe Weather Research Center in the Department of Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences at Hampton University has fully funded graduate student opportunities in the broad area of hurricane dynamics.
Our group is studying the fundamental fluid dynamics of hurricanes with the following tools:
(1)New, high-order numerical models run at scales that fully resolve large turbulent eddies with spacing of 60 meters and below.
(2)New airborne and ground-based radar remote sensing instruments that resolve turbulence in the boundary layer with spacing of 125 meters and below.
We are accepting applications for the Fall of 2025 for either M.S. or Ph.D. degrees. Applications are especially welcome from those interested in the physics, mathematics, and computational sides of atmospheric science. All ethnic, racial and gender backgrounds are encouraged to apply, and you will fit in well with our current, diverse group of students.
See the links listed below and browse our website for more information and reach out to Dr. Guimond to schedule a meeting.
