The 2025 NSF NCAR Earth System Science Internship Program (NESSI) interns are here! The program kicked off with a welcome event for all NSF NCAR and UCAR internship programs on May 18th, an opportunity to meet program coordinators and fellow students. Fitting for an internship at NSF NCAR, a hail-producing thunderstorm greeted the students, adding to the excitement of the day. This year's NESSI cohort includes nine students from colleges and universities across the United States. During their first week, interns began working with their mentors, learning about their projects, and attending the initial sessions of the Professional Development Workshop Series, which covers topics such as research ethics, leadership, and scientific writing. Now, at the midway point of the program, they are continuing to engage deeply in their research while building skills through ongoing workshops and mentoring. The interns will work on their projects through July and share their results at the Summer Student Conference at NSF NCAR on July 31st.
