 We hope that your summer is going well.  Here are a few important updates from AGS.

 Funding Opportunities

• AGS has updated the Facility and Instrumentation Request Process (FIRP) solicitation.   There are changes to the submission timelines, the budget cap for education and outreach efforts, and the retirement of the Observing Facilities Assessment Panel (OFAP).  AGS will be hosting a webinar on the updated solicitation on Thursday, July 27^th at 2:30pm eastern.  The link will be sent out prior to the event, but you can hold the date and time for now.
• The Directorate for Geosciences (GEO) has released a new Dear Colleague Letter on Extreme, Compound, and Cascading Hazards (EC2H).  The DCL encourages submission of proposals that advance our fundamental understanding of natural disasters, extreme events, and other natural hazards.  The focus is on proposals that explore:  1) system of systems approaches, 2) cascading or compound hazards, 3) interactions between longer-term trends and extreme events, and 4) processes occurring at multiple scales ranging from local to regional to planetary.
• The Office of Polar Programs (OPP) has released a DCL which acts as a Notice of Intent to Compete an Arctic Sciences Community Hub in advance of a projected solicitation in late calendar 2023.
• Also, a reminder of NSF's Non-Academic Research Internships for Graduate Students (INTERN) program.  This type of proposal has become popular with startups, small and large corporations, government agencies, and non-profit organizations, with some of those organizations providing funding to NSF to support student travel, tuition and fees, etc.  Current INTERN opportunities include:

• The overarching INTERN DCL.
• Research Internships for Graduate Students at Air Force Research Laboratory (NSF-AFRL INTERN).
• Graduate Students Supplemental Funding to Link Geosciences and Human Health (GeoHealth INTERN)

Outreach

The Directorate of Geosciences (GEO) will host the next GEO-EMpowering BRoader Academic Capacity and Education (GEO-EMBRACE) drop-in Virtual Office Hour (VOH) on 24 July 2023 (Monday) between 4-5 PM Eastern Time.  We invite faculty members at emerging (non-R1) academic institutions (e.g., Community Colleges, Tribal Colleges and Universities, MSIs, HBCUs, Undergraduate, Masters, and R2 Institutions) to engage with GEO Program Directors to address concerns and ask questions about opportunities found in the GEO-EMBRACE web portal. To attend the VOH, please register using this link (https://nsf.zoomgov.com/meeting/register/vJItfuigqD0uErASZOC8b6daqsz0-kOXCv8).
