    The Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) with Colorado State University seeks to fill a full time, professional research associate to conduct collaborative research with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) located at the Global Systems Laboratory (GSL) in Boulder, CO. The office for this position will be located in Boulder, CO, at a federal facility and requires the ability to pass a tier one federal background check for building and HPC access. An onsite presence at the laboratory in Boulder, CO is required with part-time telework available.

    The position will be funded in part by the Software Engineering for Novel Architectures (SENA) project. SENA is an effort to ensure that NOAA's model suite, algorithms and methods are ready for future landscape changes in HPC. SENA efforts encapsulate not only support of standards activities, porting codes to fine-grain architectures and examination of programming methods but also investigation of alternative algorithms and approaches to solving environmental modeling problems. 
     
    CIRA seeks candidates with a background in atmospheric and computational sciences with experience in convective boundary layer phenomenology, GFD or CFD in order to collaborate on model development and in-depth characterization using both idealized test cases and observations. Experience with lidar and/or radar data is desirable for validating model capabilities. The successful candidate will have software engineering and development skills preferably in C++, experience with application parallelization using OpenMP and MPI, and an ability to run on large HPC systems. Experience with GPU development using CUDA, OpenACC or OpenMP is desirable. This position will report to the Sr Computational Scientist.

    The individual selected for this position will be assigned the title of Research Associate II or Research Associate III based on the education and experience qualifications.
