    The Department of Atmospheric and Hydrologic Sciences within the School of Computing, Engineering & Environment (SCEE), College of Science and Engineering (COSE) at St. Cloud State University has an opening for a full-time, tenure-track assistant/associate professor in Meteorology. This position also includes serving as the Director of the COSE planetarium.

    The successful candidate will have the opportunity for active participation in the continued development of St. Cloud State University's Meteorology program. The Meteorology Program is designated by our Administration as one of only nine distinctive programs across the university. Department facilities include a dedicated meteorology computer laboratory, the Husky Weather Center, a hydrology/fluids laboratory, and the Integrated Science and Engineering Laboratory Facility (ISELF)-a venue for innovation and collaboration focused on student education and success. Meteorology students are also involved in broadcast meteorology with the student-run, Emmy Award-winning university television station. In addition, the successful candidate will serve as the Planetarium Director, which includes organizing, planning, and facilitating planetarium shows and participating in educational outreach. Furthermore, this individual will be expected to oversee regular maintenance on the facility from an appropriate external contractor.

    The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain a professional goal to become an outstanding teacher-scholar through the use of research-based, best-practices pedagogy. They are expected to teach using both in-person and alternative delivery methods such as online and hybrid. They will regularly engage in ongoing professional development and innovation opportunities focused on pedagogical growth.

    Job Description

    The responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:

    • Teaching across the spectrum of courses in an undergraduate meteorology program with a focus on introductory meteorology and radar and satellite meteorology.
    • Engaging in public and educational outreach as the planetarium Director.
    • Pursuing research and scholarly activity that includes undergraduate student participation.
    • Participating in interdisciplinary projects that may include, but are not limited to, scientific computing, education, hydrology, engineering, or earth science.
    • Contributing to the Department's Liberal Education course offerings.

    Required Qualifications

    • Terminal degree (Ph.D or Ed.D.) in Atmospheric Science, Science Education, or related discipline completed by time of appointment
    • Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education
    • Active interest in educational and public outreach
    • Demonstration of ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with meteorological remote sensing
    • Undergraduate teaching experience in meteorology
    • Experience with K-12 and public outreach
    • Experience managing a planetarium
    • Experience engaging undergraduates in research projects
