The deadline to register for the 2025 virtual National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) Finals Competition is TODAY, April 28! (Note the registration form will remain open until all positions are filled)
We still need volunteers for the following roles on both Saturday, May 17 (biggest need) and Sunday, May 18. Please join us and share!
    • Recognizers - run the buzzer system: call on students and announce interrupts
    • Timekeepers - keep time & screen share score sheets
    • Rules Judge - experienced volunteers/past competitors who take attendance, watches teams, and enforces the rules
    • Moderator - very experienced volunteers with ocean sciences backgrounds who host the Zoom meetings and create/close breakout rooms in order to run the matches and read the questions
    • Proctors - host individual teams in Zoom and administer Team Challenge Questions (TCQs)
    • Monitors - our highest need - assist Rules Judges and Proctors, respectively, in watching the teams. NO practicing required to Monitor unless you serve as a backup Timekeeper, Rules Judge, or Science Judge.

The NOSB is an academic competition that introduces high school students to ocean sciences and is a program of the Center for Ocean Leadership at UCAR. This is a great opportunity for those interested in ocean sciences to get involved by supporting the top 18 teams as they compete for the National Championship title. However, volunteers do not need a science background to participate! There are many ways to get involved from the comfort of your home or office and training will be provided.

Many volunteers return year after year noting how the experience leaves them feeling hopeful and inspired for the future! Contact nosb@ucar.edu with questions.
