The coronal forbidden lines are a rich source of diagnostics of the solar corona, particularly when combined with the allowed lines formed in the EUV parts of the spectrum. The diagnostics include, but are not limited to, electron density, temperature, and presence of accelerated particles at energies of a few keV. We review the physics behind these diagnostics together with the recent results obtained from coordinated observations involving Hinode/EIS, COMP, and IRIS instruments.
