    Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to announce the upcoming Workshop on Weather Extremes, which will be held June 30 – July 2, 2025, at the University of Missouri. This workshop is part of a successful series of NSF-sponsored workshops, including those previously hosted at Pennsylvania State University (2016), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (2019), and Clemson University (2023). These events have played a pivotal role in fostering collaborations between statisticians and atmospheric scientists, advancing extreme value analysis, and addressing critical challenges in modeling and predicting weather and climate extremes.  This workshop will explore cutting-edge statistical and AI/ML techniques to improve our understanding and prediction of extreme events, such as heatwaves, wildfires, hurricanes, and floods. Key themes include:

    • Models for Spatial and Spatio-Temporal Extremes,
    • Machine/Deep Learning and Extremes,
    • Dynamic and Physics-informed Process Models for Extremes,
    • Predictability of extreme events,
    • Coastal Risk and Tropical Cyclones and
    • Linking Large-Scale Conditions and Extreme Events.

📌 Hotel reservations must be made by June 6, 2025, to secure the special rate.

This workshop provides an excellent platform for statisticians interested in environmental applications to engage with leading experts, expand their research network, and explore novel challenges in extreme event modeling. We encourage you to spread the word among students and colleagues!

We look forward to seeing many of you in Columbia, MO!

    Best wishes,
